Movie Influence - If I stay

Last night I have encountered a movie in which I feel has a slight resemblance with our idea for our short film and this is a movie called If I stay. This movie mostly revolves on a young Mia Hall where she experienced an out-of-body experience after a car accident; the movie also transitions back to Mia's early life with her rocker family and meeting her boyfriend, Adam, who also has band like Mia's dad. Mia and Adam are both passionate with music; the only difference is that Mia is passionate with classical music as she plays the cello while Adam was more into rock music. The aspect of the film which I found similar with our idea for the movie was where Adam's band gain more recognition which starts to put a strain on their relationship. While Mia also wants to apply in a prestigious music school called Julliard and this puts more struggles on their relationship. Overall, the movie was very interesting especially its storyline and how it smoothly transitions back to the character's early life. The ending has also a very suspense which makes the viewers think what will happen next. I think that we can get some inspiration in this movie which we can adapt to our own short movie.

Logline

"It's hard to beat a person who never gives up - Babe Ruth"

During our second meeting, we came up with a logline by Babe Ruth which we feel that can relate to our short film.

First Meeting (19th January) & Second Meeting (28th January)

First Meeting - 19th January

In our first meeting, my group mates and I organised our very first meeting where we got to know each other and collaborated ideas for our short film. Then, one of my group mate came up with a brief idea about making an inspirational sports-themed video. It was also a great help that some of my group mates know a few actors that we can possibly include in our short film. On the other hand, I did have hesitations with our idea and felt that it needed more twist and impact, rather being it a generic type of film. But at the end I did hope that we would come up with more ideas throughout this project.

Second Meeting - 28th January

I would say that I enjoyed our second meeting/first seminar in JCS4 where we have improved our idea for our film. We added more details in our story where it's about a guy who does boxing and seem to always be the "Mr. Third" in every competitions. But there'd be a point in which he reaches being second for the first time and this of course makes him happy and feel that he achieved something unreachable in his life. In addition, we also came up with an idea where he has a girlfriend who plays a vital part in his achievements, however the girlfriend is a type of person where she achieves more than his boyfriend. Then, there is a point where both are ready to tell their big news to each other and this leads to a rift between the two as the guy feels that his girlfriend does not care about his achievement and keeps rambling on with her own achievements. This creates a competition with the partners and this of course has a big impact on the guy as it ruins his ego and self-esteem. We have not come up with our ending yet, but we were thinking of a twist at the end. I think the second meeting we had was very successful, thanks to our lecturer and I am hoping we succeed in putting all our ideas in our short film.
